Brij Mohan AgrawalRAIPUR: Chhattisgarh has been awarded with agriculture leadership award for successful implementation of agriculture policies and provision of 24-hour electricity to farmers at nominal costs.Union home minister Rajnath Singh conferred the award to agriculture minister Brijmohan Agrawal at a function held in New Delhi onFriday.While addressing the gathering, Agrawal said besides gaining success in agricultural field, farmers received guidance to explore horticulture, animal husbandry and fisheries segment for their additional income. Farmers in state avail benefits of zero per cent interest on agriculture loan, he added.The BJP government is working towards providing latest agricultural equipment’s, and increase cold storage facilities in the rural areas so as to jump agricultural productivity in the state, visiting Chhattisgarh Minister for Water Resources and Agriculture Brijmohan Agrawal told PTI here. In the US to attend the Chalo Gujarat 2015 conclave in New Jersey, Agrawal visited Washington DC and Tampa in Florida meeting the overseas Indian-American community from Chhattisgarh and seeking their help in attracting foreign direct investment in his State. “A number of Indian-Americans have told me that they want to come and invest in Chhattisgarh,” he said, adding that the state has huge potential in agricultural exports. Agrawal said the Chhattisgarh government is providing incentives to farmers who are moving towards growing cash crops or and engaged in floriculture. “We are providing them special facilities through loan and subsidies. This year we are providing subsidies worth Rs 200 crores to our farmers,” he said, adding that this is likely to benefit one lakh farmers. “Unless we move towards cash crop, we can’t improve the economic status of our farmers,” Agrawal said. Having got an opportunity to visit a few agricultural fields and facilities in the US, Agrawal said American farmers have got state of the art technology and equipment for their farming. “India has a long way to go to achieve this level as is available to farmers in the US,” he acknowledged, but stressed that his government is taking necessary steps in that regard. “A visit to these facilities gives us an idea as to how we can help our farmers. Our farmers also needs to be well equipped,” the minister said, adding that efforts are being made to provide subsidies to farmers in the state to buy latest technology and equipment. RAIPUR: In a bid to promote organic farming in the state, Chhattisgarh government will prepare a road map for the expansion of organic farming by the end of this year.”We will be preparing a road map for the promotion of organic farming, which will include a time-bound strategy to expand this kind of farming across the state. The road map will be prepared within six months,” state Agriculture Minister Brijmohan Agrawal said today.Keeping in view that the state has a huge potential for organic farming, the state government had already launched ‘Organic Farming Mission’, he said.Under the mission, technical and economic assistance is being extended to farmers for farming of crops, pulses, oil seeds, vegetables and flower-fruits through organic method based on geographical condition, climate and soil quality in each districts.He further said the aim of the agriculture scientists will not be fulfilled unless and until they will not take their researches and innovation to the fields.Scientists have to reach out to farmers to explain the benefits of organic farming.The Minister also informed that the government target is to develop the Naxal-affected Dantewada district as an organic farming district.
